The outcome of flexor tendon injuries is affected by many factors, the simplest being the location of injury. Zone II, where both tendons are adjacent within the tubular tendon sheath, traditionally has the worst outlook for recovery of motion. Prognosis is clearly less favorable when there is a fracture or nerve injury adjacent to the tendon injury.
